Backs

Shall we set out across the sea of faces?
In search of more and more applause?
Shall we buy a new guitar?
Shall we drive a more powerful car?
Shall we work straight through the night?
Shall we get into fights?
Leave the lights on?
Drop bombs?
Do tours of the east?
Contract diseases?
Bury bones?
Break up homes?
Send flowers by phone?
Take to drink?
Go to shrinks?
Give up meat?
Rarely sleep?
Keep people as pets?
Train dogs?
Race rats?
Fill the attic with cash?
Bury treasure?
Store up leisure?
But never relax at all!

John's Dilemna

The men of the mind
Dangerous to your code
adjudicator of illusions

Your requiem collective assimilation
Hell, apogee of moral apathy
product of your illusion

We do not need you
Cry now this is not what I wanted
The decision has been taken

This is what you fought for
This is what you dreamed of
This is what you wished for
Independence, reason, happiness
Sacrificed on the alter to
Unity, faith, self denial

Mediator of thought and appetite
Needful of many, fearful of one
Deprived the world of mans mind

Discovery

We the deceivers of men and dream
Run about as the others scream
The frightful reign in plenty
Pondering the gates of time and space
Stolen soldier hand discovers rhythm of time
Creator of improbability, author of dogmatic beliefs
Rapid decay, grey leads to greyless and decay
Sojourner of reality, discoverer of fate
Time to defend, defend with haste

No More Beacon

The shining beacon on a hill
Blood and black stained hundred dollar bill
Hopes and dreams of a generation
Fought for freedom and embraced abdication

Six hundred thousand standing at the gate
The ultimate price paid to separate
Once a union proud and grateful
Now a corporation, fraudulent and hateful

Money wolf deceiver salivates and sinks in claw
Stolen printing press of green, now master of law
Wolfs and oligarchs aspire to potentates
In caves secret agendas expand and proliferate

Peace is war and imperialism preached
Lizard tongue on podium recites keynote speech
Look, the voting sheep throng and congregate
Mass ignorance cultivates, despotism accelerates

Civics and enlightened thought, once a citizen's goal
Now Bachelorette, celebrity gossip and the super bowl
“If a nation expects to be ignorant and free . . .
it expects what never was and never will be”
